TRANSPORTATION: Rome to Port
5 Novemer 2009
Departure Time: 11:00am. Due to the excpeted high volume of passengers with a few cruise ships in port, we'll depart promptly at 11:00am. Please be at bus no later than 10:45am.
Pick up Point: Near my hotel (Hotel Giardino). There will be no other pickup points.
Bus: The maximum number of people for the 50-seat bus I will be booking will be 39 people. This will allow for enough storage for all the luggage that people typically bring on a cruise. I am basing this on people bringing two suitcases and one carry-on bag. Email me if you are interested in this transportation.
Approximate cost per person:
Number of people: 39
Total per person: $20
This does not include the tip to the driver. I will add to the price per person the tip for the driver and will pay him directly when we get to the port. The final price per person will be based on the total number number of people and the exchange rate at the time I make payment.
Tipping the Porters at the Port: On my last cruise, I was confronted by an employee who asked for tips for the luggage porters at the port of Civitavecchia. Everyone on the bus, except four of my friends, got off the bus and walked inside the terminal without tipping any porter for their own luggage. The five of us gave tips for our luggage. Please be responsible and have euros on hand to tip your porter when they take your luggage from the bus. You do want your luggage delivered to the ship, right?
I will be asking everyone to send their payment to me sometime in September. Once payment is made it is non-refundable. If you end up having to cancel your cruise, I will refund your money only if I can fill your seat with another passenger. This is only fair to the other passengers and makes it easy for me than having to collect the difference from each person This worked out well the last time I booked this bus. If you can't agree to this policy, don't ask to book this transportation.

REMEMBERANCE DAY/VETERANS DAY, NOVEMBER 11TH
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his/her life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his/her life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today, who no longer understand that fact.
Friends, this is a day where we should take a moment to remember those that served in the military in the past and those serving today to protect our freedom around the world. Please think of something we can do on November 11th, even meeting up for a toast and a, "Thank you for serving our country."
Those that have served:
Bob - US Air Force (1959 - 1966)
Tony - US Air Force & Air National Guard (1974 - 2001)
Glenn -27 years U.S. Navy; retired in 1993

Provence Tour - Full Day Tour from Marseille - Organized by Carolyn Z.
*November 6 : Private tour with a Minibus and English guide - for up to 18 people*
This is a great opportunity to tour with a small group of people, rather than a ship's tour with 30-40-50 passengers on a bus.
11:30 Pick up at the harbor
Transfer to Aix en Provence
12:00 Guided tour of the city
Shaded squares, fountains, private baroque mansions...
Lunch on your own (many snacks, crepes, traditional restaurants...)
Aix is the best place to shop
02:00pm Departure to St Rémy
03:00 Stroll in the elegant small city. Its streets display charming 16th and 17th century mansions. Discover the asylum where Van Gogh stayed after he cut off his ear and where he painted some of his masterpieces. The other point of visit is a fabulous testimony of the Roman epoch. A triumphal arch and a mausoleum still stand proudly at the entrance of the former Greco-Roman town.
03:45 Drive to les Baux de Provence
04:15 Visit of the village situated in a wonderful and very picturesque site, in the heart of the Alpilles, perched on a rocky spur 245m high. Apart from the numerous touristy shops, it seems that the atmosphere is the same as 4 centuries ago.
05:30 Return
Back to the ship for 07:00pm
Price : 920€ for the group, or $74 per person.
Taxes, toll, parking and all expenses for the driver, guide and vehicle included.
In addition to the proposal, Carolyn has asked the tour guide to try to arrange a visit to an olive mill near Les Baux since it will be olive harvest time. She cannot confirm this with one of the farmers until much closer to the date.
If you are interested, please email Carolyn immediately to book this tour and for further details (payment, cancellation policy, etc). .

Cabin Crawl, Equinox TA
How it works:
This will be a Progressive Open House rather than a group tour.
Depending on number & location of hosting cabins, during a specific half hour, a certain group of cabins (near each other) will be "open" for participants to visit, in any order they choose. No guides, groups or lines needed; visitors will consult their list of open cabins and times and plan their own visits.
During each half hour, hosts can take turns "hosting" their own cabin to let each other take a quick look at the other cabins in their group.
When their particular half hour is over, the hosts close up and can then participate together in the rest of the Open House.
The coordinator keeps up with offers to host, updates the list, makes up a handout with times and cabin locations, and gets copies to all the hosts and participants on board. Hosts and guests will get a handout in their cabin mail slot, early in the cruise.
Please email Jan if you'd like to host. Also, when you email Jan, email Monica at the same time so she can update this list.

John has the following "Euro" games that he will bring if there is any interest. There is a card room on the Panorama Deck that would be perfect to play these games.
The games are:
Settlers of Catan
Ticket to Ride
Amun-Re
Carcassonne
St. Petersburg
Alhambra
Puerto Rico
All of these games play well with 4 (or 3 or 5) players and take about 1 to 1.5 hours to complete.
